Could you share some insights into your background and how you came to join GCX?
Over 30 years ago, I moved to London after completing my compulsory Italian military service. I was ready for a new experience, which London provided. I had a few different jobs within hospitality, before moving to IT and then networking with Vanco. My first role at Vanco was as a support engineer with the NMC. Being the only Italian speaker at the time meant I was the one working on many of the Italian which included site visits. After approximately four years, I moved roles to work in the “Move and Changes” team as an Engineer. This team grew to become the Customer Design Authority, where I became the team manager.
In early 2022, I applied for an internal position in the Italian office, as I needed to be closer to my mum who was old and alone. I’m very grateful to GCX for granting me the opportunity to do this.
What motivates you in your role at GCX, and how do you maintain your inspiration?
I remain motivated by accepting new challenges that are constantly testing my knowledge and patience. Fortunately, I am now part of a new and exciting GCX Italian team as a Pre-sales Technical Consultant working on new daily challenges. My previous technical experience provides me with a wider perspective and knowledge to understand the different requests from customers.
Is there a specific project or achievement at GCX that you are particularly proud of?
I’m specifically proud of our continuous ability to maintain customer satisfaction, and retention, on various projects. Often, I work closely on UK and Italian accounts where I act as the first point of contact from assurance to new opportunities.
I am proud of how GCX has managed to reinvent itself to provide cutting-edge technologies to our existing customers and prospects such as the SASE GNSX solution.
How do you approach challenges and overcome obstacles in your work?
By deeply analysing the challenges in front of me, I’m able to assess, review and group certain challenges to make them manageable while still maintaining a holistic view of the request. Being a part of a diverse team, my problem-solving, technical background and comprehensive approach equips me to overcome day-to-day challenges while adding tangible value.
What role do your colleagues and team members play in your success at GCX?
The GCX company culture allows the team to collaborate and share knowledge whilst encouraging different points of view. This culture has allowed me to grow as a person. For any individual success, there must be a supporting team.
Are there any mentors or individuals who have had a significant impact on your career here?
Over the years I had lots of support and appreciation from multiple individuals at GCX.
In one of my most recent roles in the UK, Alan Breeze served as a notable influence and has served as a great influence on my career development. Today, I have the pleasure to work with Francesco Armato, who has great business acumen, strategy, and negotiation skills that I hope to learn from.
How has your role evolved since joining GCX, and how have you grown as a professional?
Over my 22-year career at Vanco/GCX I have worked in many different roles and duties, ranging from my days on the NOC thought installation support to becoming a technical lead and now serving as a Pre-Sales Technical Consultant.
I am currently working for GCX Italy, and I am proud to be part of a dynamic team that helps me to grow as a professional.
My hands-on approach and inquisitive mindset help me grow technically and this gives a unique approach to my current role as a Pre-Sales Technical Consultant with the Italian sales team and the exciting variety of products we offer.
What advice would you offer to new employees or those striving to excel in their careers at GCX?
GCX’s extended and varied solutions are designed around customer-specific demands. They are not limited to a single provider or vendor, they are tailored to the customer’s needs giving a new employee the exposure to a range of products and solutions.
